Gypsum & GRG Cornices and Mouldings
Decorative ceiling-to-wall transition profiles in two constructions — solid gypsum plaster for crisp traditional detail, GRG for large ornate sections at a fraction of the weight.
A cornice finishes the junction between wall and ceiling. Beyond the decorative effect, it hides the uneven line where two trades meet — which is why it appears in almost every hospitality, retail and high-end residential interior.
We produce cornices in solid gypsum plaster and in GRG — glass fibre reinforced gypsum. Both are painted after installation and both hold fine relief; the difference is weight and the size of section that can be produced without reinforcement.
Gypsum Cornices
Cast in steel and fibreglass moulds from dense plaster. Detail holds sharply through the cast, and after jointing and painting the cornice reads as part of the structure rather than an applied strip. This is the material specified for hotels, heritage-style interiors and premium residential work.
| Material | Gypsum plaster, high density |
|---|---|
| Standard lengths | 2400 mm, 3000 mm |
| Profile sizes | From 60 mm to 300 mm face width |
| Profiles available | French, retro, European and contemporary designs |
| Finish | Unpainted, jointed and painted on site |
| Installation | Cornice adhesive, joints filled and sanded |
GRG Cornices
GRG is gypsum with glass fibre reinforcement cast into it. The fibre carries the tensile load that plain plaster cannot, so a GRG section can be produced far thinner and lighter than the equivalent solid casting — and in lengths and profiles that would be impractical or unsafe in plain plaster. It paints and joints identically, so a GRG cornice and a plaster ornament finish as one surface.
| Material | Glass fibre reinforced gypsum (GRG) |
|---|---|
| Standard lengths | 2400 mm, 3000 mm |
| Profile sizes | From 60 mm to 400 mm face width |
| Weight | Substantially lighter than the equivalent solid plaster section |
| Finish | Unpainted, jointed and painted on site |
| Advantages | Lighter to handle overhead, stronger in thin sections, lower shipping weight |
Choosing between them
| Specify solid gypsum when | The profile is small to medium and the section is not weight-critical; the traditional solid feel is wanted |
|---|---|
| Specify GRG when | The section is large, deep or thin-walled; the cornice is long and has to be lifted overhead; shipping weight matters on container orders |
Where they are used
- Hotels, resorts and serviced apartments
- Residential and apartment developments
- Retail stores and shopping centres
- Restaurants, cafés and function spaces
- Offices and corporate reception areas
Ordering
Send us the profile you need — a photograph, a drawing or a sample, plus the total linear metres. If you are matching an existing profile we can produce a new mould against your sample. Standard profiles ship from stock; new moulds typically take 15–25 days to develop and produce.
Matching an existing profile?
Send a photo or a sample and we will confirm whether it is a stock profile or needs a new mould.
